I want to let people know that my father, Bert Golding, passed away. He went to sleep peacefully.

I was so lucky to be able to spend a last evening with him.

He almost made it to 96. One really can't ask for more than that. He was 88 or so when he did his last big trip, to see archaeological sites in the Mediterranean.

You don't know me, but I accompanied your father to Saudi Arabia during his 2005 tour with the Council on US Arab Relations. He was sort of my travel buddie and I looked out for him. He had great stories of his time in Arabia and his children and your mother. He knew my father and grandfather John F. Mowbray Jr., and Jack Mowbray.

Bert had an amazing openness to new experiences and despite having seen so much of far off places, and having done so much, he was still awestruck by all that had been accomplished in Saudi during his absence. He lives on smiling in my memories. Here's some pictures of your father during that. OF the two meetings, you'll see he's seated next to the man who was then considered the Head of OPEC, Ali Al-Naimi.
