Get ready to immerse yourself in some "Floribbean" culture on Thursday evening at the 2017 Reunion (8PM - 10PM) with some Salsa dancing by the pool. Don't worry if you don't know the moves. Our instructor, Tony Lopez, and his assistant will be showing you the steps to this popular dance genre. So bring your dancing shoes and join in or just kick back by the pool and enjoy the music and a tropical, Florida evening.

There's still time to register for the reunion and join us in Ft. Lauderdale. If you're on the fence about attending, hop off on the right side of the fence - the one with Blue Wave beaches and lots of Brats!

What's a Blue Wave beach, you ask? "Blue Wave" is a certification from the Clean Beaches Coalition that indicates a clean, safe, accessible and thoughtfully managed beach.  In Texas, for example, there is only 1 "Blue Wave" beach - Rockport Beach.  In Greater Ft. Lauderdale, there are 6 (six) for you to choose from!

    #ishouldgotothebeach

     Fort Lauderdale Beach
    (2 mi/9 min.)

This is the closest beach to the reunion hotel, just a hop across the 17th St bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway and a short jog onto Seabreeze Blvd. The hotel runs a complimentary, 12-seat shuttle every 2 hr on a first-come, first-served basis that will drop you at the entrance to Fort Lauderdale Beach Park, but it's close enough for a good walk, or you can always Uber it (~$6).
    Dania Beach
    (7 mi/18 min.)

One of the least crowded and prettiest stretches of beach is on the other side of Port Everglades from the hotel. Ocean Park Beach sports an impressive fishing pier.  It's a great place to enjoy the views and dine on fresh seafood.
    Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
    (7.6 mi/21 min.)

Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is a quaint, vintage beach town north of Ft. Lauderdale Beach. An active coral reef is just 100 yd offshore, making this the #1 spot for beach diving in Florida!

    Hollywood Beach
    (8.8 mi/21 min.)

Travel + Leisure named the 2.5-mi long "Hollywood Broadwalk" one of America's Best Beach Boardwalks. Enjoy people-watching at the seaside cafes or rent some wheels and join the fun.  This retro beach town is also home to Dog Beach of "Marley and Me" fame.

    Pompano Beach
    (14 mi/23 min.)

Touting the warmest, clearest waters courtesy of a kink in the Gulf Stream, Pompano Beach is a great spot for the water sport enthusiasts - deep sea fishing, scuba diving, beach volleyball...you name it! If you're looking for the top-rated fishing pier, this is it!
    Deerfield Beach
    (20 mi/28 min.)

The northern most beach in the Greater Ft. Lauderdale area, Deerfield Beach is a family playground. Take surfing lessons at Island Water Sports or enjoy cable tow water skiing at Quiet Waters Park.

We have had several changes on the Board this term.  To bring you up to date on the comings and goings:

New to the board is Caroline Homolka-Masters (RT '84) who has been appointed to a Director at Large position.  Caroline has 30 years of professional sales experience and has served on several boards as a Fundraising Chair. We are looking forward to working with her!

Annie Oskam (DH '72), resigned her position as Reunion Oversight Director.  Annie joined the board in 2011 as a Director at Large then took on the role of Reunion Oversight Director in 2013.  Liz Germani (RT '84), who was serving as a Director at Large, has been appointed as Annie's replacement for the remainder of this term.

Duane Hopple also left the Board after serving since 2009, first as Database Director then Vice President.  The V.P. position is currently vacant.

A warm "ahlaan wasahlaan" to Caroline and a big "shukran" to those departed board members for their many hours of service to the organization and to those Brats who answered our call for nominations and expressed interest in serving this next term!
